Island of Tenerife

Tenerife is just off the North West coast of Africa and is the largest of 7 Canary Islands and part of the Spanish colonization. The rugged terrain and the variety of climates have produced some spectacular tourist attractions like mount Teide and the cliffs of Los Gigantes. From the north of the island the climate changes, Puerto de la Cruz has a climate very similar to that of a good summers day where the purpose built tourist areas of los Cristianos and Las Americas has all year round sun bathing weather. The island is dominated by mount Teide which stands at 3717m and surrounded by Tenerifes national park. The mountain is the largest in Spain and the 3rd largest volcano on the earth. It last erupted in 1909, but is currently dormant and during the winter months can be seen to be covered in snow. The name teide is a modern name given by the Spanish after the colonization. Just recently a cable car was added as a major tourist attraction which starts from a huge typical log cabin offering food and drinks at 2356m to 3555m, just short of the tip of the volcano.
